Many of us spend the majority of our waking hours during the week at work, and for a lot of us, that means sitting in front of a computer for a good portion of the day. This can be hard on the body; in fact, some research suggests that sitting for long periods of time can shorten your life!
Don’t let your work style interfere with your healthy way of life. Here are five ideas that can help you stay healthy at work.
Five Ways to Stay Healthy at Work
1. Make sure your monitor, mouse and keyboard are in the best position so that your arms, neck and back are comfortable.
2. Consider using a Physioball or exercise ball as an office chair for a portion of the day. This will help to strengthen your core muscles. We suggest you use it in 20-minute increments to help break up the day.
3. Stand up and stretch, walk around the office or grab a glass of water every 30 minutes. Consider setting a silent alarm that goes off every 30 minutes to help you remember to get up and move.
4. Go for a run or walk during lunch.
5. If you really like to move, get a treadmill desk. A treadmill desk can be used as both a stand-up desk and a work area that allows you to walk at a slow pace while you work.
